Sacred Geometry: The Point (1)

Written by Kevin J McKee for the SoJournal and Personal Guide 2026. Reprinted with permission.

The number 1 (also called the Monad) represents first thought, a starting point, unity and first action.  Once you have considered the potential of the process as we did with the Blank Page and The Fool, you need to decide on a direction, position or starting point.

The point represents unity. From the point, every other design is born from the simplest line, or circle, to the most complex designs, the point is where everything starts.

Once a point has been placed, it will forever have a relationship to anything else you may draw on the page.  Even if you ignore it totally, draw over it, or pretend it doesn’t exist, it is there and impacts the entire creation from that point onwards.

Much like The Point, a thought and/or action reverberates through the entire creation. Once you take an action, or think a thought it is created and real, affecting everything that comes after it.

In our modern world with Undo and Restart, where almost any mistake can be rectified and appears to be wiped out of existence at the touch of a button, we have lost connection with this concept. What you think, say and do matters.

Once you take a step, it is taken.  It is pointless to try and erase it, the only thing you can do is work with it, heal and grow with it, maybe change your original design to accommodate it. You can lie, hide it away, or distract from it, but it will always be there and part of your journey.

Many people stress out when they think about this. We all make mistakes, the “magic trick” is how you handle them.

They block our path if we are unconscious of them, if we blame others for them, if we choose to hold onto them and make them part of our definition of ourselves, or carry guilt and shame.

If you see them as a growth point, a mirror of what’s going on inside you, and use them to re-evaluate things for yourself, then they become powerful catalysts for change.

Always consider your thoughts and actions carefully, they have a widespread impact not only on you, but the world around you too.

Meditation

Read through the instructions below, don’t be scared to open your eyes and check something rather than hope you are doing it right. The answer to the questions; “Am I doing this right?” and “Am I meditating?” is always no.  If you are thinking, you are not meditating.  Meditation is a heart-based process, not an intellectual one.

Trust yourself just a little bit, you can do this. Everyone meditates in their own way, don’t panic, do the best you can right now and surrender to the process.

  1. Prepare as you normally would for meditation if you are an experienced meditator. If you haven’t meditated for a while, or ever, use a place you can be undisturbed, maybe light a candle (white would be good for this purpose), light your favourite incense, put on some instrumental music, lyrics will disturb your concentration. Sit comfortably on the floor or on a chair, wear loose clothing or at least loosen belts etc.
  2. Take a few slow, deep breaths focussing on relaxing, releasing the thoughts in your head, your mind will start running around a bit, that’s ok, acknowledge the thought, let it go and focus back on your breathing. Meditation is an exercise and like any exercise it takes a bit of practice to “get it right”.
    • An important thing to remember about meditation is that it takes place in the inner planes of your mind, so release your expectations of what is going to happen, release your expectations about what is correct or right and relax into the process.
    • If you try to control the meditation you are not meditating, you are just breathing deeply. Be open to receive, even if what you receive is not what you expect or hope for.
    • If your attention “skips”, that’s ok, take another deep breath and focus again. It will get easier with practice.
  3. If you have already done a meditation to create a meditation temple or inner temple etc. you can use it for this process, if you haven’t created an inner temple or something similar, you can imagine your mind and awareness moving down from your head into your heart (PS – apparently your physical heart has brain cells in it too – called the heart brain – more about the heart space in the article on (0) or the blank page).
  4. Breathe deeply and let your focus move down from your mind to the centre of your chest, the heart centre is situated here, you may feel a shift in your energy, a sense of peace and calm, maybe even a bit of overwhelm at the vastness of the space. Your only awareness is of your being, not your body. This may take a bit of practice, that’s ok, do what you can. As you practice, it will become easier and quicker to access this space, relax and do the best you can right now.
  5. In the darkness around you, you see a spark of light, small and insignificant, feel the energy of the spark, notice how, now the spark of light is there, the darkness around doesn’t seem so dark and endless anymore, while still without end, the spark creates a difference, a shift in your perception and awareness.
  6. Let the spark move behind you. Notice that even though you can’t see it, you know it is there. Allow another spark to appear, let them both float in front of you. Notice that there is an energy, or tension between them, even though they are not touching.
  7. Just watch for a bit and allow them to dance around you, maybe let another spark ignite. Notice how the space now seems a little less endless, that having a point or two of reference outside of yourself, gives you a sense of security maybe?
  8. Notice too that wherever the points are positioned, they appear to be in relationship with each other and the limitlessness that surrounds them, they create a type of definition and maybe even a bit of restriction to the space.
  9. Relax and breathe, enjoying the dance of the sparks, when you are ready, leave the sparks in the space and go onto the next step
  10. Focus again on your breathing, you may feel disconnected from your body, that’s ok, take some more breathes focussing on balancing your mind with your body, rub your fingers and thumb on both hands together until you feel centred, calm and grounded.
  11. Take a massive breath in, blow yourself up like a balloon, then exhale in a rush allowing all the air to rush out of your lungs, then breathe normally and when you feel ready open your eyes.
  12. Remember to make notes in your journal/mediation journal.
